The PTA (Parents and Teachers Association) is the immediate organization to work with for the successful implementation of school programs and projects. They are legally supported by the state to be the shore up local entity of the school in initiating programs and innovations for the benefit of the students. Special laws, memoranda and department orders had been formulated for empowering PTA so that the association should perform the duties prearranged to them. When the need arise, parents are ready support physically, morally and sometimes financially.
Before assuming office, the school administrators should orient and educate the officers regarding of the limitations of their existence in the school. It must be clear to them that they are parents and not teachers. They must not intervene in the classroom instruction or whatever educational activities the school implements. The PTA’s sole responsibility is to help the school and not to be an obstruction in the implementation of school programs and policies. They can serve as watchdogs to check and balance whether an activity is urgent especially when monetary is concern or it is for the benefit of the students’ educational growth. The PTA has the power to reject any fund rising proposal or can craft course of action so that an activity be possible once they budge in unity.
How about when this group became the stumbling block in the implementation of programs and activities of the school? When in stead of helping they cause division and misunderstanding among the school personnel? There were instances that parents interfere in the classroom instructions. The out of campus instructions and educational fieldtrips are activities that must be given full support but most of the time blocked-up by the parents. They can oppose the price of books and workbooks being used but not to the extent of not using these very important teaching materials just because of its price. And the worst is the questioning of the teachers’ strategies in dealing with the students. To get rid of these messy occurrences, school authorities’ and the officers of the association from time to time should meet to upgrade and resolve urgent issues. It is a practice that can develop harmonious relationship and enables both parties to grow professionally. Thus, gap and grudges occurs when the school management and the PTA do not stand on the same principles and visions towards development of the school’s direct beneficiaries, the students.
Workers in the education sector and its’ stakeholders must execute their duties and responsibilities with love and dedication. No vested personal interests while working because it will only ruined the purpose. It only produces social delinquents and unproductive citizens.
